What are Entrepreneurship Boot Camps?

Boot CampBootcamps are opportunities for students to learn hands-on from successful entrepreneurs about various aspects of planning the start and operation of their venture. Each bootcamp introduces you to a progressive building block that is important to the successful development of your business plan venture. You will also have the opportunity to meet with fellow student entrepreneurs and grow your professional network.

1 - Ideation & Startup Feasibility Boot Camp - Drew Tulchin, CFO of Meow Wolf, will discuss how aspiring New Mexico college student entrepreneurs can determine if their commercial or technology-based idea is qualified to reach target markets. Students will be led through a hands-on discussion on structuring a new venture that can sustain itself and grow.

2 - Lean Startup Model Boot Camp - Paul Short and Bill Hartman, members of the ABQid Board of Directors, will lead students through the Lean Startup Model canvass to effectively validate business opportunities in relation to their commercial or technology-based ideas. An emphasis will be made on how to discover industry or consumer needs and wants in their target markets.

3 - Business Plan Boot Camp - John Brown, President & CEO of Silent Falcon UAS Technologies and Matthew Ennis, Founder & Managing Director of Monsoon Road, LLC will share what investors are looking for in the financials portion of a business plan. They will also discuss how to incorporate critical knowledge gained about a startup’s target market, their product/service, their revenue model, and management team to write a business plan with supportive data that will explain their entrepreneurial intent and strategies.

4 - Startup Marketing & Sales Boot Camp - Prof. Todd Quinn, UNM Business Librarian, will walk students through the Entrepreneurial Research Guide and how to mine market research data. Stacy Sacco, Director of the Small Business Institute at Anderson School of Management, will lead students through a discussion and exercises in effectively marketing and selling their startup ventures’ product or services. Students will utilize market discovery information gathered after participating in the Lean Startup Model Boot Camp.

6 – Effective Leadership Practices Boot Camp - Alberto Solís, Interim Director, UNM Business Plan Competition Program, will be providing your teams with insight and guidance regarding and team building that will add value to your efforts writing your business plan and competing for startup funding on April 20th. This boot camp will also feature two UNM alumni business owners that are past winners of the UNM Business Plan Competition: David Smidt, Owner, Mother Road Mobile Canning (2013-14 winner) and Joshua Martinez, Co-Owner, Obvious Engineering (2015-16 winner), who will be joining us to share their best practices on leading and developing a strong team to win the competition and grow their business ventures.
